“Doing what I do in Ukraine is truly a privilege and an opportunity to live out my values,” said Yulia Brockdorf, a private practice psychotherapist based in Hillsboro who has traveled to the war-torn country three times this year.

Brockdorf, who is bilingual in English and Ukrainian, said she travels regularly overseas to bring supplies to her homeland and volunteer as a psychotherapist working with active-duty soldiers.

For Ukrainian refugee kids, she helped organize a summer camp in Oregon for operated by early childhood education professionals who are Ukrainian refugees themselves. She serves on the board of a nonprofit called Dawn to send medical supplies, tourniquets, chest seals and body warmers to Ukraine.

“What I’m doing right now is an extension of who I am. If you have a child, you would do anything for them. The same is true of Ukraine for me,” she said.
