Who is Inna Kovtun?
Inna Kovtun is a Ukrainian ethnomusicologist, folk artist, educator, and community wellness advocate whose work beautifully bridges cultural preservation and healing. A passionate keeper of traditional knowledge, Inna has collected over 1,000 folk songs from Ukrainian, Moldavian, Bulgarian, and Tatar traditions—traveling across villages to record, remember, and reawaken ancestral voices. Her life’s mission is not only to perform these songs, but to use them as a way of restoring connection—between people, generations, and spirit. Now living in Oregon, Inna continues this work as the Health and Wellness Director at DAWN, a Ukrainian-led nonprofit based in Portland. At DAWN, she leads culturally grounded wellness programs that support refugee mental health, resilience, and identity, including trauma-informed arts, music therapy, and ritual-based community gatherings. Inna is the founder of I Love Ukraine—Portland’s first Ukrainian theater—and serves as the Music Director for the children’s ensemble Singing Dawn/Blue-Yellow, nurturing young voices through folk songs and creative expression. Her collaborations with American musicians and cultural institutions—including Cappella Romana, Hrai More, and Kitka—continue to build bridges between Ukrainian heritage and the world.
