I met Yulia Brockdorf last year at the #welcomingweek event hosted by #officeofimmigrantsandrefugees of City of Portland Office of Community & Civic Life organizase by Wafaa Almaktari

The minute I held Yulia’s hand to paint henna on it we looked up at each other with tears brimming as if sharing the pain of displacement on behalf of our communities while the senator who was speaking droned on about him visiting refugee camps as if it was a walk in the park. I still remember that moment. Well our paths kept crossing and we kept cool ing up ways to support women impacted by displacement and yesterday I had the pleasure of sharing henna with women and children impacted due to ongoing war and displacement.
